Meet Liz AlJammal
Candidate for Waltham School Committee
My name is Liz AlJammal and I am running for re-election on the Waltham School Committee. My husband, Sammy, and I have made Waltham I our home since 2000. We chose this community to raise our family because it had so much to offer. We are the proud parents of two daughters. Sara is a Waltham High School 2021 graduate and is pursuing a graduate degree at Roger Williams University. Leah is a senior at Waltham High School.
I am the daughter of 2 immigrant parents who entered the Untited States as teenagers with only a fourth grade education. English was not spoken at home and I entered kindergarten as an English Language Learner. From a very young age, my father instilled in me that an education was the key to opening doors and being successful. Public schools provided me with that education.
I am a graduate of Rhode Island College and earned a Master of Social Work degree from Boston College. I am a licensed Certified Social Worker in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. My training and experiences mean that I bring skills such as active listening, critical thinking, cultural competence and advocacy to all the work I do as a Waltham School Committee Member.
For the past 18 years, I have been an active and engaged parent in Waltham Public Schools. I have been a member of the FitzGerald and McDevitt School PTOs. I brought together a group of parents to start up a PTO at Waltham High School. I was a member of the School Site Councils at both FitzGerald Elementary and McDevitt Middle Schools. I was a member of the Special Education Parent Advisory Council. I have served on multiple search committees and have contributed to the hiring process of several principals, assistant principals and superintendents. I have participated on working groups for equity, social emotional learning, district stragtegic planning, and the creation of an alternative high school.
I have helped lead the district through daily bomb threats, the attempt to ban books from the Waltham High School library and the COVID-19 pandemic. I have led through the siting and construction of the new Waltham High School, the siting and growth of our Dual Language School and the creation and opening of Valor High School, which serves over-aged and under-credited students.
My work and commitment to Waltham Public Schools was recognized on January 9, 2017 when I was appointed, by a unanimous vote of the Waltham School Committee and the Waltham City Council, to fill a vacant seat on the Waltham School Committee. I was elected into office the following year and have proudly served since then. With your support, I hope to continue serving for another term.
On November 4,2025, vote Liz AlJammal for Waltham School Committee.
